About Arden on the Severn

If you are an Arden resident, you already know how fortunate we are to live in this "gem" of a community called "Arden on the Severn". If you're new to Arden, here you will find some great information to help acquaint and connect you with your community and your neighbors. With direct access to the beautiful Severn River, our many amenities make Arden on the Severn a much desired place to live and raise your family.

Arden in the News

In the Washington Post "Where We Live" Feature by Madison Rudolf. [READ HERE]

The article appeared in the print newspaper Thursday, Oct 26th, 2023.

With four private beaches, three boat ramps and docks to launch our boats and store our dinghies, and watercraft storage racks, there's no need to go anywhere else. Members can even make a reservation for some party space at our two larger beaches to host their private events. Learn more below and by visiting the Arden Beaches, Inc. website.

In addition to our private beach amenities, we also have an amazing community center that we call "Town Hall" that can be reserved by community association members for private events, reunions, celebrations, and community organization, group, and club meetings. Read more about our little community building known as Town Hall and its history in our community. Town Hall is also available for rent to ACA Members for their private events.

You also have access to Arden Park and ball fields within walking distance for most homes in Arden. In addition to the park, there are several treasured trails throughout the woodland here in the footprint of our community. You'll find some trails behind the Arden Park and ball fields, as well as more trails between Sections 2 and 5. If you're into exploring, be sure to check them out.

LOOKING FOR A GOOD BOOK OR WANT TO SHARE ONE?

Just one example of how great Arden is can be contributed to the Arden Boomers Social Group responsible for initiating a Book Exchange in 2017 with the construction and installation of the first Arden "Free Library" located at the entrance of Tuefel Park on Waterview Drive inspired by the desire to offer books to everyone, including children, as a community lending library. Borrowing books is based on the honor system, "Take a Book, Leave a Book". The program has been such a success that additional libraries have been installed. Other locations can be found below.

John Vitello, who lives in Section 1, designed and constructed the box and was aided in the installation by Scott Stose who provided the means for a secure structure.

Other "Little Library" locations in the "Arden Community Book Exchange" are listed below. Be sure to visit one near you, and remember, "Take A Book; Leave A Book." Enjoy!

ARDEN'S WELL & SEPTIC

SEPTIC SYSTEMS

Is your septic system in good condition?

Anne Arundel County has a grant to locally administer the Bay Restoration Fund (BRF) program. The BRF is a State-supported program that provides funding to replace conventional septic tanks with nitrogen-reducing units. The program’s purpose is to reduce the amount of harmful nutrients, such as nitrogen, that septic systems discharge into the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries. [READ MORE]

Private Water Wells

All wells in Maryland must be drilled by a licensed Master Well Drillers and accompanied by an Application for Permit to Drill Well issued by the Anne Arundel County Department of Health. DOG ETIQUETTE IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD

Dog parents have a responsibility to manage their pets' behavior and follow certain rules of etiquette. Follow these guidelines to ensure that you and your dog are being courteous community members.

Etiquette for Dog Parents

1) Scoop your poop. Bring several bags on your walks to be sure you have enough. If you run out, either come back and clean it up later, or ask another walker if they have a bag to spare.

2) Prevent barking. Practice getting your dog’s attention to easily redirect him if he barks at people or other dogs. If you know your dog acts this way, only allow him in the yard when supervised. Do not allow your dog to excessively bark causing noise disturbance to your neighbors.

3) Only let your dog greet a stranger if they ask. The same rule applies if you see another dog and caretaker approaching. Ask first and respect the other’s response.

4) Always leash your dog on walks. Not everyone is comfortable around dogs. Keep your dog close to you and stay alert to others. Your leash should be short enough to prevent your dog from contacting or jumping on passersby. Do not allow your dog on a retractable lead to enter someone else’s property, especially where there are other animals (e.g., fenced or electronically fenced). Allowing this can antagonize restrained dogs causing fencing failures.

5) Don't play while on leash. If you meet another dog on a walk (and it's alright with their caretaker) let the dogs sniff each other for five seconds and move on. Letting your dog play with another dog while on leash can result in injury and teach your dog that all dogs enjoy this kind of interaction, although many don’t.

6) Be aware of other people's feelings. If your dog does something to upset someone (jumping up, barking) apologize to them and take measures to prevent the situation from reoccurring.
